Murach's ASP.NET 2.0 Upgrader's Guide: VB Edition outlines what Visual Basic developers need to know as they move from ASP.NET 1.x to 2.0. This is Microsoft's tool for building Web applications, and ASP.NET 2.0 offers more than 50 new controls that significantly reduce coding.

This upgrade guide covers a variety of topics, such as Access, SQL and XML data sources and new bound controls like GridView, DetailsView and FormView. These new features are all presented in the context of complete business applications and include Web forms, aspx codes and VB code.

Chapter 2, "How to develop a one-page Web application," walks developers through the process of using Visual Studio 2005 to build Web apps. The chapter begins with a brief introduction to the Visual Studio IDE and explains how to start, open and close a Web site.

From there, the rest of the chapter covers topics such as using Design view to build a Web form, working in Source view, adding validation controls and code to a form and testing a finished app. The chapter ends with a list of key terms and a review exercise aimed at beginning ASP.NET 2.0 programmers.
